WHY???!!!!

Why, after having giving birth to six children, would this mystery woman continue to have children? I simply do not understand these women who have 10, 15, 18+ children...isn't that some kind of abuse? How can these people truly take care of all these children without any detriment to the other children in the household? It seems like that extra mouth to feed takes away from the others...I really do not understand this current woman who just gave birth to octuplets. It seems senseless because this was not a natural occurrence, meaning she was going through fertility treatments in order to give birth to more children. This just seems wrong...

I'm so excited!!! I received the best email today! The people handling the Essence Music Festival this year have announced more performers...Beyonce is cool and all, but I needed much more than just her...and I got much more! Maxwell, Anita Baker, John Legend, Robin Thicke, En Vogue, Salt N' Pepa, Teena Marie, Al Green, Eric Benet, Raphael Saadiq, Lalah Hathaway, Ledesi!!!! Tell me that this line up is less than HOT and I'll call you a FOOL!!! LOL! And those are just some of the performers; meaning that there are more to come! Also, let's not forget the seminars and panels that will be going on during the day! Roland Martin, Donna Brazile, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Bill Cosby, Ed Gordon, Tom Joyner, Donnie McClurkin, Finesse Mitchell...the list goes on and on!

More on the Oscar Grant case...

So, apparently before Oscar Grant was shot in the back, while handcuffed, another officer punched the young man in the face! This officer, Tony Pirone, left the person he was dealing with, walked over to Grant and punched him. Why haven't we heard more about this case? Maybe the excuse is that it is not national news? Naw, that won't work because I can hear about the trees and homes burning in California all day...yet not a peep about a young man being punched in the face, hands then cuffed behind his back, and then shot in the back while face-down on the ground. We gotta do better people...we have to keep shining light on these injustices...take a look at this video.

Barack and Michelle Obama's First Dance

President and Mrs. Obama look so great together. This was such a great moment!

Another WTF moment...

Okay, I shouldn't even give this topic any attention, but I need to get this out of my system...I turned to Shade 45 radio yesterday afternoon and caught part of a conversation between the show host and a caller. Apparently Rude Jude (the host) does not trust politicians (of course this includes Obama). I can't fault him for not trusting politicians...that's his personal trust issue to deal with. I do, however, find fault with what some callers were saying about Obama being the first African-American president. One caller, a black man, said that he was tired of hearing Obama being called the first African-American president. According to this caller, Obama doesn't know or understand the "black experience" in America because he (Obama) isn't African-American. This guy said that Obama's ancestors weren't slaves, so how could he understand the struggle? I'm summarizing here, but that's the gist of what the caller was saying. The host agreed with the caller. I do not. The way I see it, if Barack Obama walked down the street and encountered a racist cop, for example, he would be seen as a black man. There would be no distinction made between whether or not his ancestors were apart of the struggle. Also, how do we know that his ancestors were not slaves? So his father was African and his mother was white...that doesn't mean that slaves are no where in his paternal or maternal ancestry.I'm willing to listen to dissenting opinions because they make people think and sometimes broaden minds. I know everyone can't agree on everything, nor should they. I think that yesterday was such a positive, optimistic day and it upset me that people were focused on something as small as this. Am I wrong in my thinking?

What a day....

I feel like I'm going to burst as I sit here at work, watching the inauguration of Barack Obama. I know I'm going to cry because I think about the fact that my grandmother and grandfather passed away before he could witness this moment. I cry because I think of all the people who are no longer here to see this day. This is soooo amazing to me (I know I'm not alone in this feeling). I just want to ride this feeling for as long as I can. I wish I was in that crowd today because I know it would be that much more intense. All those people standing out there today; all those people there with one purpose...celebrating change and optimism. How anyone find fault with this time in our history, I just don't understand. I can tell you one thing...no one is going to kick me from my section of Cloud Nine....lol, the naysayers might as well join the rest of us!

Yeah....I'm a comic book geek...

Yep, I've slowly rediscovered my love of comic books. As a kid, one of my cousins introduced me to the X-Men and for a long time after that I loved the comics and cartoons. Eventually, I grew away from them. With the recent surge of comic book movies, my love was rekindled. Today, I pre-ordered the 2nd printing of the Spiderman/Obama comic book. I am extremely excited to see what it looks like and to read the story line. Another comic book that I am curious to read is the new Black Panther storyline. All I know at the moment is that the new Black Panther is a woman...how empowering (wink)!

Follow-Up: An Arrest Made for the shooting of Oscar Grant

According to Black Voices, Johannes Mehserle, former BART police officer, has been arrest for shooting Oscar Grant. In case you were unaware, due to the lack of media coverage, Oscar Grant was a 22 year old black man who was shot while handcuffed and face-down on the ground. The shooting occurred on New Year's Eve in Oakland, California at a BART station. Hopefully this is the beginning of justice for this young man and his family. Click here to read the full article.

What New Releases Are You Excited About ?

I absolutely love music; my day feels empty unless I've listened to some great music. That said, I am a person who constantly checks website for information on upcoming CD release dates. Yes I still buy and listen to CDs; I enjoy them the way some people love vinyl albums. Anyway, I've searched and listened to the radio to find out who will be coming out with CDs this year and I'm extremely excited about some. Here's my list (in no order of importance):

1. OutKast - I love everything that they come out with...as individuals and as a duo...

2. Syleena Johnson - She has such a great voice...

3. Mos Def - I love Mos!!!!!! Can't wait to hear the new CD...

4. D'Angelo - I've been waiting for a new one from him and supposedly this is the year...

5. Maxwell - Every time I hear him sing, I become even more of a fan...

6. India Arie - She made me pick up a guitar...now I just need to learn how to play it, lol...

7. U2 - I've loved this group since I was a kid...With Or Without you started it...

So far these are the only ones that I've heard are releasing new music this year...do you know of some others? If so, please leave comments and let me know....

POLICE FATALLY SHOOT UNARMED MAN - Laying Face Down and Shot in The Back! CAUGHT ON VIDEO!

This man was handcuffed and face-down on the ground! What, I ask, were the BART officers thinking when they murdered that man! Thank goodness for technology, because without it I don't think I would have heard anything about this. Those officers need to be held accountable for killing that young man. I'm always so surprised when something this happens and sometimes I question myself for being surprised...I think "It happens often enough, so why am I surprised?"...then I tell myself that I should always be surprised because when I'm not, it means I've become desensitized to this violence. Thanks to blacksolutions on Twitter for sending this my way. I just want to do my part to spread this story around.

What a world we live in....

I sit here at my computer with tears in my eyes because of the story I just read on MSNBC.com. A man...no, a male creature....killed his 2 year old son because he owed $4,000 in back child support. Question...What is the world coming to? Answer...The end. That has to be it! The world has become so disgusting, so incredibly sickening. I mean, why didn't this creature simply take his own life? Why the baby? You know what, forget taking any life; why not just get a job or get more than one job? There are plenty of people who work several jobs in order to make ends meet so what was the deal with this fool? Now, he gets to go to prison... instead of simply paying to support the life he helped create. I just do not understand. My heart goes out to the mother of that poor child and to those who truly loved the little boy...

Rap Music was started in Scotland?! Huh?!

Read this article....what are your thoughts on it? What exactly is the point of this study? Is it a way to shift the blame from young black men? Does this mean we should blame Scottish slave owners for vulgarity that rap contains? Does anyone see the point of this study?

Jim Jones - Pop Champagne [Official Video

For Mom...check out Mike Epps at the 9 second mark and at the 3:08 mark... he is too funny!
