Another Must-See Movie

This is another remake, but this one may actually be worth seeing. I saw the original movie a few years back, after seeing it featured on a scariest movie moments show. The original had a real grimy feel to it and was difficult to watch. This one looks sleek and may be easier to swallow. All I know is after seeing what the criminals do, I can’t wait to see the parents of the victim get revenge. Check out this trailer…

Best Week Ever...Bulletproof Weave, LOL

Okay, I'm sure you've heard the news story about the woman who's hair weave stopped a bullet. Her ex fired a shot at her and the bullet got lodged in her weave. Unbeweavable, right? While I was glad that the woman wad alright and the ex was arrested, I still got a chuckle out of hte story. Then tonight, while watching Best Week Ever, on VH1, I was even more tickled. This may have been in bad taste, I don't know, but Paul F. Tompkins presented a "What If" idea. What if Abraham Lincoln had invested in a magenta weave on that fateful night? According to Tompkins, Lincoln may have seen the end of the play. I know, I know, it's so wrong, but I can't help giggling. Think of the many lives that could have been saved if only they had invested in a magenta weave like Briana Bonds. Definitely unbeweavable...

T.I. a spokesperson for Atlanta Crimestoppers?

Some people have a problem with T.I. doing a PSA for Atlanta Crimestoppers (click here to read article), but I'm not sure I really understand why. I'm listening to Shade 45 Morning Show and people have voiced their opinions; some think T.I. is going against the whole "Stop Snitching" campaign that criminals have brainwashed neighborhoods into believing. The way I see it, T.I. is changing, regadless of his community service. Looking at the person he was when he first came out and comparing that person to the one we see today, I think what he is doing is real grown man of him.

This whole Stop Snitching thing is some of the stupidest mess I've ever seen. If you do something to hurt the people in your community, someone should shine a light on your mess. When I was in Philly a few weekends ago, during a discussion, my favorite author, L.A. Banks, said something that makes so much since. She said that everyone's dirt is going to be brought out into the open. If you're doing something you know is wrong, you should realize that it will be found out. In terms of "Stop Snitching", I can't stand it when I hear about folks witnessing the murder of someone, especially a young person, and refuse to say anything to the police because they don't want to be a "snitch". There is a difference between being a snitch and simply doing what's right. As adults, we should really be beyond that whole childhood tattle-tale crap.

But back to T.I., he is ever-changing, like most people. I think this PSA, even if it was a condition of his community service sentence, is a great thing. Kids look up to him, he is very influential and I totally respect him for stepping out and doing something for his community. To those who say he is being a snitch...please grow up...

Presidential Address & Repubilcan Response....

These are the things that caught my attention last night during our President's speech and the strangeness that occured afterward...
  • Number one...Michelle looked gorgeous, as per usual (I just love our First Lady!)
  • "The cost of action will be great, but the cost of inaction will be greater..." This is common sense to me...
  • "Govern with a sense of responsibility..." Instead of fear; those with common sense should understand this...
  • "Not just quitting on yourself, it's quitting on your country..." I think asking every American to commit to at least one year of higher education was one of the best moments in last night's address. Another one was when the President said, once again, that responsibility begins at home! Parents need to make sure their children are prepared for what the world is going to ask of them.
  • Something that had me scratching my head....Why did everyone get up and start clapping when the President brought up the deficit we inherited? As a matter of fact, a better question might be...why did everyone keep standing and clapping throughout the address?
Now...here are my thoughts on the Republican Response (perhaps this has more to do with the mouthpiece they used to make their statement...)
  • Waaaaaa Waaaaaa Waaaaaa...lol...Gov. Bobby Jindal sounds real corny
  • Why does Jindal keep saying "We believe Americans can do anything" Are those in government not Americans too?
  • Isn't the President asking all Amreicans to step up? So why does Jindal keep saying that Dems are relying on government alone?
What did you think of the address?

WHY?

You know, I'm all for justice and wrongs being made right, but why is the family of Geronimo, an Apache warrior, naming President Obama in a lawsuit? The family contends that a secret society at Yale University stole the skull of Geronimo. But what does Obama have to do with this? In fact, Bush's grandfather is believed to be the one who actual stole the skull for the secret society; shouldn't this lawsuit have come up at some point in the years that George Bush Sr. and George W. were in The White House? Someone...anyone...please help me to understand this?! To read more about this click here.

Most Beautiful Couple Award goes to....

The President and First Lady make marriage look so good!
Don't you agree!

What's Really Going On....

I was listening to the radio this morning and heard about an 11 year-old boy being charged with murder. This kid shot his father's pregnant girlfriend with a shotgun made especially for children. A shotgun made for children? The parents felt that teaching the boy to hunt was a good idea, I guess. While I am sad for the family of the victim, my first thought was this....why in the world does a child need a shotgun? I don't believe that children need to go hunting with adults; we do not live in an age where we have to go out and hunt for our food so what's the point? Let me take it a step further...if children are not mature enough to make adult decisions, like, for instance making the decision to have sex or have children, why are they thought to be mature enough to fire a weapon? Maybe that's a little extreme, I don't know, but I really want to know why a child should be allowed to fire a weapon. Now this kid, under Pennsylvania law, will be charged as an adult for homicide! He , at 11 years-old, could be sentenced to life in prison. But shame on anyone who want to enforce gun control on the American people, right? CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOOT GUNS!

For your viewing pleasure....

Don't know about anyone else, but I love this movie trailer...the music that accompanies it is so perfect...I know where I will be on March 6, 2009!

Shining a little light on this...

Could this be another situation where a police officer went way too far? I think so, but I want to share this so other people are made aware that injustice is still out there. People are walking around thinking that the battle has been won simply because Obama won the presidency; that's not the case. We still have a long and difficult road ahead of us....please read this article about the death of Billey Joe Johnson and, if so moved, click here to sign a petition for a thorough investigation of this young man's death.

Working On Being the Best Person I Can Be...

Working on becoming better in all areas of my life is important to me, so I enjoyed an article I just read on self-improvement. According to Amelia McDonell-Parry, via CNN.com, there are ten things we can all do that will help us to become better people. They are as follows:

1. Pack your lunch
2. Call your Mom for no reason
3. Volunteer
4. Tip (even if your order was messed up)
5. Get over a grudge
6. Call up an old friend
7. Bake cookies for your co-workers
8. Finish your book
9. Get up 30 minutes early and make breakfast
10. Learn something new

I'm not sure how packing my lunch can make me a better person; yes, I would save money, but how would this make me a better person. I would only tip when the order was messed up if the waiter/waitress was pleasant and apologetic...sorry but if you're acting like a jerk, you will not get a tip because I'm always pleasant to the people who have access to my food (that's just smart business to me). For the most part this is a decent list of things to do to better oneself. Is there anything YOU would add to this list?

Why does anyone care about...Nadya Suleman

Okay, maybe it's because I'm not feeling too good today...think I've caught a cold...but anyway, why does anyone care about Nadya Suleman? Why give her any airtime to talk about her insane decision to have all those kids? I just don't understand this....what I do know is that I will not give this story anymore of my time and, this may sound callous but I don't care, I hope she is ineligible for assistance, because I can't stand the idea of taxpayer money going to this obviously crazy woman.

Salary Cap for Executives...I'm cool with that...

According to CNN.com, President Obama is expected to make an announcement today concerning the salaries for the executives of large companies, especially those companies asking to be bailed out. The president wants salaries capped at $500,000. For the most part, this is a great idea. I say for the most part because I think that $500,000 a year is still high. I would be happy making $50,000 a year, so perhaps my view is kind of skewed? I'm sure that these executives are going to balk at this salary cap because they have gotten used to making millions a year; this will be a shock to their systems, but ask me if I care...go on...ask...NO I DON'T CARE! According to the CNN article, companies who really want to pay their exces more than $500,000 can only do so by paying the excess through stocks and only if STOCKHOLDERS approve of it. Also, the stocks cannot be made liquid until the company pays back the money it borrowed from the government. This means that they'll actual have to earn their salary...no stockholder in his or her right mind will approve of execs being paid more if the company is doing poorly and losing equity....great concept, right?
